Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Flagstaff AZ
409 AM MST Thu Mar 26 2026
.SYNOPSIS...Strong high pressure will continue through Saturday,
with high temperatures running 15 to 25 degrees above normal.
Breezy afternoon winds and low humidity are also expected. Expect
cooler and windier weather late in the weekend and early next
week, along with chances for showers or thunderstorms. However,
temperatures will still be above normal.
&&
.DISCUSSION...Strong high pressure centered over northern Mexico
will slowly shift to the southeast through Saturday. Record high
temperatures will continue through Saturday, extending our streak
of record-breaking heat to an impressive 12 days! Very low
humidity will continue today and Friday will increase a bit
Saturday and especially Sunday/Monday as some moisture is advected
in from the south. This will lead to isolated to scattered
showers and a few thunderstorms from Sunday afternoon through
Monday, favoring areas east of I-17/US89. This activity is
forecast to be high-based, at least initially, meaning gusty
winds and a few dry lightning strikes could accompany any
shower/storm activity. Temperatures Sunday and Monday will be
cooler, but still close to 10 degrees above normal. Tuesday and
Wednesday - models are in general agreement that a trough will
pass eastward through the region, but vary considerably on the
strength/track and resulting precipitation chances. For now,
cooler and windy weather looks likely, with precipitation chances
in the 20-40% range at this time - stay tuned as we get closer.

E/SE winds 5-15 kts Friday morning, becoming S/SW 5-10 kts
gusting 10-20 kts by afternoon. S/SW winds 10-15 kts gusting to
20-25 kts on Saturday.
&&
.FIRE WEATHER...Today and Friday...Very warm and dry. Winds
west/southwest 5-15 mph with gusts around 20 mph today. Winds on
Friday will be east/southeast in the morning, gradually shifting to
south/southwest during the afternoon at 10-15 mph gusting around 20
mph. Minimum afternoon RH 5-10% each day.
Saturday through Monday...Turning cooler, but temperatures remain
well above normal. Isolated to scattered high-based showers and
